A Look at the Indoor Fluorescent Light Garden

It's time to lessen the indoor fluorescent garden to a minimum, and put the plants outdoors in the sun so they can excel.  EXCEPT the basil... I have not had much luck with herbs outside here, so the basil gets to stay indoors.  I made delicious pesto today, and I adore the leaves in a tossed salad.  What a fragrance!

Red Robin Tomato... I just checked back on the April 11th blog entry, when I only had flowers.  Now there are LOTS of cherry tomatoes growing happily!  I need more seeds LOL!  AND I'm going to try propagating from cuttings.  I see ENDLESS cherry tomatoes, less than 18" tall.  Imagine that!  These guys are gorgeous little bonsai tomatoes.  How can you not like this?

Melothria scabra:  Mexican miniature watermelon.  I have been lovingly growing these "Dr. Baker" special seeds, waiting for the weather to support them outside.  They have CLEARLY outgrown the indoor shelves LOL.  But they're quite patient in spite of their incredible trailing vigor...   We have had 20-30 MPH winds, so I have been hesitant to launch them into the real world.  Plus, I was waiting for the raised beds to get their trellises.

Aha !! Trellises!  Lovely eh?  I planted one of the nine flourishing plants today.  If this poor little guy survives the wind, cold, and heat, then the other 8 get planted by his side!

I can't wait to see this trellis covered with miniature watermelons and cucumbers!

You must admit, he's cute.
