The Great Carrots Experiment - Update 2/3/13

Carrots in the winter...   I thought I would successfully grow them.  Not here in Lancaster!  Too cold.

Here's the latest:

If you need to, reference the pictures from December 15th, 2012.  The carrot sprouts have not changed since then.

These, however, are pictures of the carrot seeds planted about the same time as the Dec 15th photos were taken.  They did NOTHING during the icy cold arctic time of winter.  They have finally germinated and are behaving like happy little plants, now that nights in the teens is hopefully a thing of the past.

The whiskey barrels have special Christmas carrots planted, so I'm very excited to see how they do now that it's warmer (60-70 degrees days, 30-40 degrees nights).

Just in case the carrots from December are harmed from the deep freezes, I've planted more carrots in plastic germination bags.

Purple Dragon....  MMMMMM

Carrot - Carnival..    Can't wait!

And, some in peat pots, just in case the bags fail!

Tiny gourmet carrots.... Tonda di Parigi.  Yay!

OMG, just look at the lettuce seeds!

Look at all the cool new flags....

Cherry tomatoes...

Cherry tomato wow

  1. I'm moving from San Diego where I grow year round (just harvested the last of my Fall carrots yesterday) to the western Antelope Valley. I'd love to connect with you once we get there next month!
    Cheers~
